Leadership Programs

Servanthood Leadership Program (SLP)

This summer Cave Springs Camp will once again host our Servanthood Leadership Program (SLP). This is a program for youth age 14-15 that offers an opportunity to combine learning sessions and at camp experience in order to build upon leadership potential.

The Servanthood Leadership program is an opportunity for youth to gain additional camp knowledge and valuable leadership experience. This program teaches practical camp skills (such as leading activities, practical counselling, and group leadership) and contains faith building sessions and opportunities to serve peers, children, and the community. The intent of SLP is to develop a servant-like attitude in youth, as well as create a unique and individual understanding of what it means to be a mentor to campers through camp activity training and behind-the-scenes projects.

This year, we are excited to introduce some changes to the SLP program. There will be 2 options for SLP participants this year.

OPTION 1: SLP Part 1       Program cost $400       Program dates July 14th-19th

Participants will attend a single week of training at camp. This week will focus on “soft skill” training for young leaders. SLP Part 1 program components include practical counselling and faith sessions, team building and leadership activities and a hike to Balls Falls conservation area. SLP Part 1 will follow similar format to how SLP was run in the past.

OPTION 2: SLP Part 1 AND Part 2      Program cost $700       Program dates July 14th-19th AND July 28th to August 2nd

Part 2 of SLP is new this year, and will offer new skills and opportunities. Part 2 will focus on “hard skills” training such as belaying for high ropes, steering canoes, and working closely with campers in a group. It will include an extended canoe camping trip, as well as an Emergency First-Aid Certification. We are very excited to offer teen leaders the amazing opportunity to work more closely with staff and find practical ways to share their faith with children.

SLP candidates must complete SLP Part 1 in order to attend Part 2

If SLP applicants (of either option) show sufficient leadership abilities, they will be offered at least one of the following Assistant Counsellor Placements:

August 6-9th: Overnight Counsellor, Kitchen Helper, or Day Camp Counsellor

August 11-16th: Kitchen Helper of Day Camp Counsellor

August 18-23rd: Overnight Counsellor, Kitchen Helper, or Day Camp Counsellor

We are looking for youth who are mature, responsible, and looking to develop their faith. It is essential that you have an interest in working with children and serving others. Please note that this program is different from a regular week at camp. There will be many opportunities to have a good time in this camp setting although we expect to take this experience seriously and you will be evaluated on your performance as a leader in training, we also hope that this experience will be one of fun, learning and growth.

There are a limited number of spaces in this program. Youth are selected based on applications and reference letters. Enclosed applications and reference sheets are due Monday, June 10th, 2019. Emails and/or phone calls will be sent to all applicants ASAP stating their status of acceptance. Applications can be submitted electronically to This email address is being protected from spambots. Leadership Development Program (LDC)

Cave Springs also offers opportunities for those aged 16 years old. Cave Springs is affiliated with two other United Church camps and through these three camps, there is a program called the Leadership Development Camp. This camp is run by a separate group of individuals and runs for two weeks at the beginning of the summer. Campers spend time at all three camps (Cave Springs, Ryerson and Silver Lake) and also travel to Algonquin as well as plan and execute a worship service. More information and how to apply can be found at www.leadershipcamp.ca.
