Covid-19 and Summer Camp 2023

April 13, 2023

In the summer of 2023, Cave Springs Camp will continue to offer safe, fun and enriching camp programs for campers and staff. We will follow the directives of the province of Ontario, Niagara Public Health and the Ontario Camping Association.

VACCINES

We do not require COVID-19 vaccination for participation at Cave Springs Camp, but we do recommend that campers stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 Vaccinations.

MASKS

Campers are not required to wear a mask at Cave Springs Camp. All campers are welcome to wear a mask at any time and we encourage campers/guardians to include a mask when packing for camp. We will also have disposable masks that are available for use, as needed.

SELF-SCREENING (before camp)

While still at home on the first day of camp, we ask that all parents/guardians conduct self-screening with their camper(s) through one of the following methods:

    • Follow the steps of the School and Child Care Screening Tool as a guide for symptom recognition and actions to take. Recommendations to stay at home and not attend school/child care, in this case, translate to a recommendation to not attend camp.
    • Take a COVID-19 rapid test. Follow this link to find a location for a free COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Kit.

STAY HOME IF YOU’RE SICK

Whether you have COVID-19 or not, stay home if you’re feeling sick to help prevent whatever infection you may have from spreading to others. We can work with you to reschedule to a different week of camp or apply payments received to future camp registrations.

SCREENING AT CAMP (upon arrival)

At registration on the first day of camp, campers will be asked screening questions that are based on the School and Child Care Screening Tool. In light of answers provided, there may be additional conversation, assessment and direction initiated by our Camp Director.

DAY CAMP DAILY SCREENING

While a camper may be healthy at the beginning of Day Camp, it is possible that their health changes during the week. Therefore, we ask all parents/guardians of Day Campers to self-screen before leaving for camp each morning. We once again recommend following the steps of the School and Child Care Screening Tool.

SICKNESS AT CAMP

If a camper presents COVID-19 symptoms at camp, their parent/guardian will be contacted. This may result in a child going home or taking a COVID-19 rapid test. If a rapid test is positive while at camp, the camper will be removed from programming and get to enjoy some small-scale personal camp activities in an isolation space until a parent/guardian is able to pick them up. When a camper tests positive at camp, the primary contact for the campers in their group will be notified of the potential exposure. Additional action steps for Self-Isolation, Symptoms and Testing will follow recommendations from Niagara Public Health.

SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Our COVID-19 policy is based on the current information and recommendations provided by the Province of Ontario and Niagara Public Health. If direction from these governing bodies changes, we may need to adjust our policies accordingly.
